Happy New Year! Ring in 2027 with Cascade Quartet for their very first New Year’s performance. Borodin’s Second Quartet and Gershwin’s Lullaby bring some of the most melodic and relaxed writing in the quartet repertoire, while Beethoven’s Op. 59 No. 3 closes the night with one of his most famous chamber finales. The concert finishes with a special new years secret.

Masque explores what happens when there’s more to the music than what meets the ear. Haydn starts the game with his famously mischievous “The Joke,” full of wit and tricks on the audience, while Shostakovich’s First String Quartet hides deeper emotions beneath its bright, easygoing surface. Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte takes the familiar world of the classical string quartet and playfully turns it inside out. Then Janáček’s gripping “Kreutzer Sonata,” inspired by Tolstoy’s tale of jealousy, obsession, and murder, brings the concert to a fever pitch. Four works, four very different masks, and an evening where nothing is quite what it seems.
